J. Bennett is a pen name for an author from Eastern Iowa, United States. Empty Stations was started solely as a creative writing project to explore life as a teenager in the late 2000’s, the solitary environment of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and a few fears the author faced in adolescence.

The story is a first person narrative of Jesse, a man recounting the incidences of his childhood and teenage years which helped form his pessimistic outlook on faith and fear. It revolves greatly around his best friend Luke- an orphan with an odd lineage, Whitney- a rebellious girl who is the object of Jesse’s affections, and the mystery surrounding a missing boy named Trevor Harwood.

The three main characters navigate isolated small town life, spreading rumors, and mysterious forces tied to the area’s folklore all while trying to understand themselves and their own relationships with each other.
